All You Ever Wanted To Know About The IRAF CL

These pages provide an introduction to the Command Language (CL) used by the Image Reduction and Analysis (IRAF) system. The CL is the shell command language used by IRAF as the primary user interface to the system's large number of tasks. As with many shell command languages, the CL is an interpreted language, providing basic programming control constructs and data structures necessary to write programs known as scripts.

The bulk of the information provided in these pages is a 2-part introductory course given internally at the Institute in February/March, 1996. Also, links are provided to other resources a user may find useful when using the CL as a programming language.
