examples -- Print online examples of how to use the named task(s).

DESCRIPTION

The examples task is a shortcut for printing the on-line examples for a specified task. It produces essentially the same output as the IRAF task help when the "section=examples" parameter is set. However, the other options and parameters available for the help task are not supported here. The advantage to using examples is that the task name is more intuitive and easier to remember for novice users of IRAF.

PARAMETERS

template [string]

A string listing the task(s) for which examples are desired. As with the help task, each list element may be a simple name or a pattern matching template. Abbreviations are permitted. The form of the template is a list of patterns delimited by commas:

"pattern1, pattern2, ..., patternN"

and the form of a pattern is:

package_pattern.task_pattern

If the "." is omitted, examples assumes you are looking for a task in the current package. The standard pattern matching metacharacters, i.e., "*?[]", are permitted in patterns. Simple patterns are assumed to be abbreviations.

EXAMPLES

The examples task is easy to use, and behaves much the same as the familiar help task. To see examples, one supplies the task name as an argument.

1. Print examples of how to use the task grpcopy in the package tools (with output displayed on the terminal):

	cl> examples tools.grpcopy
or
	cl> examples grpcopy
or
	cl> examples grpc

2. Print the examples of how to use the tasks dqfpar and noisepar (in the wfpc package) on the default printer device:

cl> examples dqfpar,noisepar | lpr

BUGS

On some systems, typing the next command keystroke before the end-of-page prompt is printed may result in the character being echoed (messing up the output) and then ignored when raw mode is enabled for the prompt.
