STSDAS Users Guide
To properly analyze data from the Hubble Space Telescope it is best to understand the basic data formats that are used.*1 Both IRAF and STSDAS have headers containing descriptive information, although the implementations vary. Both also have separate files for headers and data. In this chapter, we will describe:
- IRAF data format (OIF)
- STSDAS data format (GEIS)
- How HST data sets are named and used for each instrument
- How to work with image sections and groups
- How world coordinates are handled in GEIS files
- STSDAS table format
