ELCAT Object List

The following list contains all Galactic and extra-Galactic planetary nebulae, proto-planetary nebulae, and other objects once suspected of being planetary nebulae contained in ELCAT. The total number of objects as of May 1995 is 1020.

Columns 1-8 contain the object name, cols 11-18 contain the designation in the system of Perek and Kohoutek (PK) (although several objects have no PK numbers), cols 22-48 contain aliases, cols 50-80 contain additional information gathered from the literature throughout the years. References added since the original ELCAT was published in 1976 include the suffix "_2". Otherwise, the references are near the end of this file.

Note that the column setup is a bit different for the extra-Galactic PNs, in that there are no PK designations for them. The source of Population number designation for the PN is PTR2. (See end of file.)

Type I are ejected from the most massive of the intermediate mass
stars, and present strong He and N enrichment.
Type II from the bulk of the disk PN.
Type IIa some N enrichment, intermediate between Type I and Type IIb.
        Type IIb no N enrichment.
Type III are nebulae ejected from older stars, reaching higher
distances from the galactic plane and presenting definite
                   underabundances of heavy elements.
Type IV include the few known PN in the galactic halo.
Type V are the nebulae fouond in the galactic centre.
