MultiDrizzle Home Page

MultiDrizzle automates and simplifies the detection of cosmic-rays and the combination of dithered observations using the Python scripting language and PyRAF, the Python-based interface to IRAF. MultiDrizzle was written by Anton Koekemoer using PyDrizzle, which has been developed by the Science Software Branch at the Space Telescope Science Institute.

Latest Release

A completely redesigned version of MultiDrizzle will be released alongside STSDAS Version 3.3 . This new version of MultiDrizzle has been re-written to be faster, with improved algorithms, and no direct dependence on IRAF. This version will supercede all previous versions of MultiDrizzle, but will also require newer versions of Python, numarray for installation. Look for this to come out late November 2004.

Learning about MultiDrizzle

Anton's Multidrizzle Page

Advanced support for Multidrizzle, along with the full version of Multidrizzle used internally at STScI, can be found on Anton's Multidrizzle Page. The full version relies on software external to IRAF, and incorporates automatic image registration refinement based on that extra software.

MultiDrizzle Users Manual

The Dither Handbook provides the background on the algorithm used by Multidrizzle for detecting cosmic-rays and combining dithered observations. That handbook will be updated to discuss multidrizzle and its use as soon as possible.

Additional Drizzle-related Documentation

ACS pipeline calibration processing currently uses PyDrizzle to perform distortion correction on all ACS observations.  More information on this application of PyDrizzle, and others, can be found on the ACS Drizzle Page

MultiDrizzle Requirements

PyRAF

MultidDrizzle uses PyRAF to control the operation of IRAF tasks and to setup a parameter-based interface.

PyDrizzle

MultiDrizzle uses PyDrizzle to manage the images, to compute the drizzle parameters, and to control the operation of both the drizzle and blot tasks.

STSDAS V3.0 or later

STSDAS Version 3.0 has been updated to automatically load Python tasks and packages found in the STSDAS tree, including PyDrizzle.

numarray

Multidrizzle REQUIRES the use of numarray. Numarray should have been installed with PyRAF, but if not, can be downloaded from the numarray development site.

Python 2.2

MultiDrizzle relies on features of Python 2.2 for its implementation.
