The PyRAF Installation Guide

PyRAF runs on a variety of machines and operating systems. Instructions for installing PyRAF on machines not at STScI are included in the information on the current release. If you are on the STScI science Unix workstation cluster, do this:

Add 'Package: IRAFX' (or any other version of IRAF) to your ~/.envrc file.

Either logout/login completely, or:

cd ~
touch .envrc
source .cshrc  (or open a new window)

Then you can run PyRAF by simply typing "pyraf" at the Unix prompt.

If you have questions, contact the address below. We have tested PyRAF on all the systems in use at STScI (Solaris, Linux, and Tru64 Unix). Python runs on Macs and Windows, so if/when IRAF begins supporting those platforms, PyRAF will also be available.
